San Francisco in November

I was starting to get the travel bug again. Luckily for me there was an airfare sale to San Francisco ($230 r/t from IAH) over Veteran’s Day weekend. I had never been to San Francisco before or California, except for layovers. Everyone kept telling me what an amazing place San Francisco was and . . . → Read More: San Francisco in November

USA-Italy Rugby Match

This summer the US Men’s Rugy team (I didn’t even know we had one) played a friendly (i.e. meaningless) match with the Italian men’s team in Houston at BBVA Compass stadium, home of the Dynamo soccer team. I don’t know anything about rugby, but I went anyway out of curiosity. There were a lot more . . . → Read More: USA-Italy Rugby Match

The African Cup of Nations tournament has introduced me to several African team names, many of which are great. I’ve found the names of several teams from reading game recaps on the websites of ESPN, BBC, and CNNSI. Here’s a list of my favorites:

Montreal in the Dead of Winter

This is Montreal in the middle of February:

5+ inches of ice covering the lawn

Forget the outdoor cafes, jazz playing in the air, and busy sidewalks. In winter, shops close early and it’s very cold. Yet, we still found plenty of sights and activities around town.

SXSW + East Austin + SoCo

Austin Motel3

I went to Austin last weekend for SXSW, but didn’t see as much as I did last time that I was there. The event seems to get bigger every year. The local news kept mentioning Eminem and 50 Cents. Uh, I thought this was an event to highlight nascent and indy acts, not . . . → Read More: SXSW + East Austin + SoCo

Aquarian Athletes

It’s not the sign often associated with athletic prowess or competitive drive, but there must be something about those . . . → Read More: Aquarian Athletes

Made in USA: The New Sought After Brand?

IMG_2178

There was a time when I would have coveted a Gucci handbag or Coach shoes because they were quality and not everyone had one. Something happened in the past decade where many of the large luxury brands sold out and went mainstream. Instead of a prestige item, these brands are now mass-produced factory . . . → Read More: Made in USA: The New Sought After Brand?
